What is a museum and the role of a museum today? Is it just a storage of still objects or is it a storage that is accessible and explores the relationships of the collection?
The project manifests critical thinking towards the normative museum design in terms of inverting the sectional spaces by replacing storage and the parking within/in between gallery spaces. Storage and parking are not hidden but rather exposed; LA`s car culture and the urban context with Walt Disney Concert Hall affects how the museum performs. The project creates cross views and physical/visual relationships between these three programs: Parking - Storage and Museum. Grand Ave. is pulled inside to create an urban plaza starting from the ground level and continues to upper urban plazas. The idea of `being urban` is extended by the use of exterior/interior ramps with escalators which work as a skip-stop system, passing through the Broad`s personal collection and urban plazas.
